Leather, Tulle and Fishnets

Guess what time it is (what?), it’s holiday season and that can only mean one thing… Holiday parties!

But before I go any further, I must first give my Dazzlers what they are owed. An apology. I know it’s been awhile since you’ve all heard from me. Months in fact. So much has happened in my personal life that my world felt like a whirlwind, but after a calming breeze and a slight change in the weather, I am now able to feel like me again and able to sprinkle my razzle-dazzle all over the world.

Now let’s get back to it! Last night was my company office holiday party. This is the one night a year that we all look forward to the most because it allows us to celebrate and enjoy each other and of course dress up.

Every year I usually try to be proactive and determine my outfit a week or so in advance. Not this year. I literally wasn’t able to pull my outfit together until 30 minutes before I left out the door.

So while I observed the mountain of clothes laid on top of my bed, three things stuck out: a leather top, a tulle skirt and fishnets.

And when I put them all together, this was my end result:

Since everything was all black, I thought it would be fun to mix up the textures of materials.

So I started off with a leather top.

To give the outfit a little sparkle, plus it was a nice way to break the plane of the skirt and top.

And then I thought to myself, “why stop there?”…

Let’s get a little frisky by adding a fun pair of decorative fishnet stockings. And to complete my look, my accent piece is what brought it all together.

It was just the right amount of razzle to my dazzle.

My hat of course! From the moment I’d seen it, I had to have it. The big brim immediately spoke to my heart.

Even though this outfit was in no way, shape, form or fashion planned, it still turned out a hit. Sometimes we can get so bogged down with why things didn’t work out the way we planned that it discourages us from moving forward. But if there was anything this outfit taught me, it taught me that it’s okay if things don’t go according to plan. Sometimes you just got to grab your big hat by the brim and go wherever the wind leads you!
